Parental Involvement

Because of the very nature of a Catholic school as a faith community, parental involvement is fundamental to its existence. Historically, parents have been heavily involved in Catholic Education from its very beginnings in Australia. Here at St. Patrick’s our parent community is one of our major strengths and there are numerous avenues for parents to become involved.
Any volunteers within our school must abide by the Schools actions to meet the Child Safe Standards as detailed in the Induction Statement for Engaging Volunteers. Which includes the following -

- Volunteers must register at the school office when in the school and provide details in the Sign In Book
- Volunteers must wear lanyards
- Volunteers must supply a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) a copy of which is to be provided to the school office
- Volunteers must sign the school Code of Conduct once which is then held at school
- Classroom volunteers are to attend Parent Helper Induction training sessions which are held at the beginning of the school year for new volunteers
CLASSROOM ASSISTANCE
Many parents are involved in some way in the classroom program. This involvement includes listening to reading, working as a literacy classroom helper and assistance at sporting activities. Opportunities for such involvement occur at regular intervals throughout the year. The arrangements are made through the classroom teacher.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS
All Parents who work with children are required to have a valid and current Working With Children Check. The school pays any costs incurred in obtaining a WWC Check. WWC application guide and forms are available online at http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/. A passport photo is required for the check. The school has an account at Thornton Richards Camera House, 416 Sturt Street Ballarat, where you can charge the photo cost to St. Patrick’s Primary. Please present your WWC card at reception for us to photocopy and add to our Working With Children register. |
